CECILY MAKES
Alongside the years I spent developing our clothing offering at The Emperor’s Old Clothes which I founded in 2012 I have always had one (read: five+) craft projects on the go allowing my makes to follow whatever direction my imagination takes me
Now that we are embracing all things craft + creativity at Tiers of Joy I’m so excited to have a space to share my personal flights of fancy through Cecily Makes
I work across wide variety of craft genres including knitting, drawing, painting, ceramics, sewing, photography + more to create pieces that resonate with my current special interests and memories of childhood
The older I’ve become, the more appreciation I’ve developed for the natural world. I love going on long countryside walks, especially in ancient woodland, to birdwatch, find a sense of calm and photograph all the flora and fauna that catches my eye
These photographs often serve as the inspiration for my creations in other media - especially painting, collage and needlework
I love to lean into the whimsy of seasonal joy with seasonal homeware displays featuring an eclectic mix of old family heirlooms, secondhand vintage finds and handmade creations such as knitted pumpkins in Autumn, colourful Easter chicks and hand-painted decorative candles in Winter
I use my @cecilymakes Instagram account as a gallery to document my past + present creations and generally explore my creative practice
