Welcome to Tiers of Joy.

We are a small creative brand focused on craft, community and collective action. We believe in finding joy in the everyday, sharing skills, keeping tangible craft practices alive and creating spaces where people can make, learn and connect.

These Terms & Conditions explain how our website, products, subscriptions, events, appointments, Make Your Own Kits and Makers Market work.

We have tried to make these terms clear and straightforward. If you have any questions about them, please contact us.

By using our website, placing an order, purchasing a subscription, booking an event or appointment, or otherwise using our services, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects any statutory rights you have as a consumer.

1. ABOUT TIERS OF JOY

In these Terms & Conditions:

  • “Tiers of Joy”, “we”, “us” and “our” means Tiers of Joy Ltd.
  • “you” and “your” means the person using our website, purchasing our products or services, holding or receiving a subscription, attending an event or making an appointment.
  • “Maker” means an independent artist, designer, maker or small brand whose products are offered through our Maker’s Market.

2. USING OUR WEBSITE

You may use our website for lawful and personal purposes.

You must not use our website:

  • for fraudulent or unlawful purposes;
  • to harass, threaten, abuse or harm another person;
  • to interfere with the operation, security or functionality of the website;
  • to introduce malicious software, viruses or other harmful material;
  • to attempt to gain unauthorised access to our website, systems or accounts;
  • to impersonate another person or organisation;
  • to collect or misuse another person’s personal information; or
  • to copy, reproduce or commercially exploit our content without our permission.

We reserve the right to restrict or suspend access to our website where we reasonably believe that it is being misused or these Terms & Conditions have been seriously breached.

3. CUSTOMER ACCOUNTS

Some features of our website require you to create a customer account.

Depending on the products and services you use, your account may contain information including:

  • your name and contact details;
  • billing and delivery addresses;
  • order history;
  • measurements;
  • subscription information; and
  • event and appointment bookings.

You are responsible for ensuring that information you provide is accurate and kept up to date.

You are responsible for keeping your account login details secure and should not share your password with another person.

We may suspend or terminate an account where we reasonably believe that it has been used for fraud, abuse, unlawful activity, non-payment or a serious breach of these Terms & Conditions.

4. PRODUCTS AND PRODUCT INFORMATION

We take reasonable care to ensure that product descriptions, photographs and other information on our website are accurate.

However, many Tiers of Joy products are handmade, vintage, deadstock, independently produced or made using unusual or reclaimed materials.

As a result, products may naturally vary in:

  • colour;
  • texture;
  • pattern;
  • finish;
  • dimensions; and
  • appearance.

Such variations may form part of the character of the product.

Colours may also appear differently depending on your screen or device.

Where a product is handmade, vintage or made from deadstock material, an item may not be completely identical to another item shown in photographs.

We reserve the right to correct genuine errors in product descriptions, availability or prices.

If we discover a significant error affecting an order you have placed, we will contact you and explain the available options.

5. PRICES AND PAYMENT

All prices displayed on our website are in Pounds Sterling (GBP).

Your bank, card provider or payment service may apply additional international transaction or currency-conversion charges. These charges are outside our control.

We currently accept payment methods including:

  • debit and credit cards;
  • PayPal;
  • Apple Pay; and
  • Google Pay,

where available.

The payment methods available to you may depend on your location, device and payment provider.

The total price and applicable delivery charges will be shown before you complete your purchase.

Payment must be successfully authorised before an order can be processed.

6. ACCEPTANCE OF ORDERS

Submitting an order through our website does not necessarily mean that the order has been accepted.

Your order is accepted when we confirm acceptance, normally through an order confirmation or other communication from us.

We may be unable to accept an order where:

  • a product is unavailable;
  • we cannot deliver to your location;
  • payment has not been authorised;
  • there is an obvious error in the price or product information; or
  • we reasonably suspect fraudulent or unlawful activity.

If we cannot accept an order for which payment has already been taken, we will refund the relevant amount.

7. DELIVERY

We ship worldwide, although certain products may not be available for delivery to every country.

Delivery charges and estimated delivery times will be displayed during the ordering process where applicable.

International orders may be subject to customs duties, import taxes, handling charges or other charges imposed by the destination country.

Unless we expressly state otherwise, these charges are the responsibility of the recipient.

Delivery may occasionally be affected by circumstances outside our reasonable control, including postal or courier delays, customs processing, industrial action, weather and international transport disruption.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions limits your statutory rights relating to delivery.

8. RETURNS, CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS

Our detailed return arrangements are set out in our Returns Policy:

https://tiersofjoyltd.com/return-policy/

For eligible physical products purchased online, consumers may have a statutory right to cancel their purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods, followed by a further 14 days to return them. Certain exceptions apply, including for some personalised, bespoke or made-to-order products.

Our standard returns policy requires returned products to be unused and in their original condition, subject to your statutory right to reasonably inspect goods.

Unless the product is faulty or applicable law provides otherwise, the customer is responsible for return postage.

Refunds will be made in accordance with applicable law and our Returns Policy.

9. SALE AND DISCOUNTED PRODUCTS

Sale and discounted products are not eligible for discretionary change-of-mind returns where an applicable statutory cancellation right does not otherwise apply.

However, being a sale or discounted item does not remove your statutory consumer rights.

If an item is faulty, not as described or otherwise does not meet applicable legal requirements, your statutory rights continue to apply.

10. FAULTY, DAMAGED OR INCORRECT PRODUCTS

If a product arrives damaged, is faulty, is not as described or you receive the wrong product, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible.

We will work with you to resolve the issue in accordance with your statutory rights and applicable consumer law.

11. GIFT CARDS AND DIGITAL PRODUCTS

Gift cards are non-refundable except where required by law.

Digital products and downloadable content are generally non-refundable once supply has begun where you have expressly agreed to immediate supply and acknowledged that this may result in the loss of your applicable statutory cancellation right.

Your statutory rights relating to faulty or defective digital content remain unaffected.

12. MAKE YOUR OWN KITS

Our Make Your Own Kit service is designed to help you make your own clothing using your individual measurements and a selection of fabrics from our fabric library.

A Make Your Own Kit does not contain a finished garment.

Depending on the kit, it may include materials such as:

  • cut out fabric garment panels;
  • instructions;
  • guidance; and
  • other haberdashery components required to make the garment.

The finished garment is made by you.

13. MEASUREMENTS AND FIT

The Make Your Own service relies on accurate measurements.

You are responsible for providing accurate measurements and checking the information supplied for your kit.

We offer a free Measuring Video Call to eligible customers to help guide you through taking your measurements.

Where we assist you with taking or checking measurements, you will have the opportunity to review and confirm the measurements recorded for your order.

You remain responsible for confirming the final measurements.

Our measurement guidance is intended to help you achieve a good result, but we cannot guarantee that a finished garment will achieve a particular or perfect fit.

Fit can also be affected by sewing technique, fabric characteristics, garment construction and individual preferences.

If your completed garment does not fit as expected, please contact us. We will assess the circumstances on a case-by-case basis and work with you to find an appropriate solution where possible.

14. VINTAGE AND DEADSTOCK FABRICS

Many fabrics used in our Make Your Own service are vintage, deadstock or available only in limited quantities.

Once a fabric is no longer available, we may not be able to source an identical replacement.

Where a replacement is appropriate but the original fabric is unavailable, you may choose another fabric from our fabric library, subject to availability.

Vintage and deadstock fabrics may have characteristics associated with their age, manufacture or previous storage, including minor variations in colour, weave, texture or finish.

Where these characteristics are inherent to the material and have been appropriately described, they may form part of the character of the fabric rather than being defects.

15. MAKE YOUR OWN KITS AND MATERIALS

The patterns (cut out fabric garment panels), instructions, guides, illustrations, tutorials, videos and other educational materials supplied by Tiers of Joy remain our intellectual property or the intellectual property of the relevant rights holder.

Purchasing a Make Your Own Kit gives you a personal, non-transferable, non-commercial right to use the relevant materials.

You may use our patterns (cut out fabric garment panels) to make garments:

  • for yourself; or
  • as gifts for other people.

You may not, without our prior written permission:

  • sell garments made using our patterns;
  • reproduce or sell our patterns;
  • share copies of our patterns;
  • upload patterns or instructions to the internet;
  • distribute digital copies;
  • reproduce or distribute our tutorials;
  • sell or commercially exploit our educational materials; or
  • use our patterns for commercial manufacturing.

17. SUBSCRIPTION RENEWAL AND PAYMENT

Subscriptions are charged monthly.

For most customers, subscriptions automatically renew each month using the payment method associated with the subscription until cancelled.

Some countries may not be eligible for automatic recurring payments through our payment provider. Customers in those countries may therefore need to make a manual payment each month.

Where manual payment is required, we will send payment prompts by email.

The applicable monthly price and recurring nature of the subscription will be displayed when you subscribe.

18. FAILED SUBSCRIPTION PAYMENTS

If an automatic subscription payment fails, we may make one further attempt to recover the payment.

If payment remains unsuccessful, the subscription may be suspended or cancelled.

You are responsible for keeping your payment details accurate and up to date.

19. CANCELLING A SUBSCRIPTION

You may cancel your subscription at any time.

Cancellation will normally prevent future renewals.

If you cancel part-way through a paid subscription period, you will normally continue to receive your applicable subscription benefits until the end of the period you have already paid for.

We do not normally provide a pro-rata refund for the unused portion of a subscription period, except where required by law.

Subscriptions cannot currently be paused.

20. CHANGING YOUR SUBSCRIPTION TIER

Where the relevant functionality is available, you may change between subscription tiers.

Upgrading

When upgrading during a subscription period, you will be charged the difference between your existing tier and the new tier for the relevant month at the time of the upgrade.

Downgrading

When downgrading, the difference between your existing tier and the new tier’s lower subscription price will be deducted from your subscription fee at the beginning of the next month. Your new tier’s lower subscription price will then apply from the following monthly subscription period onwards.

21. GIFTING SUBSCRIPTIONS

Subscriptions can be purchased as gifts.

The purchaser may purchase the subscription in their own name but must provide the recipient’s email address where requested so that the recipient can receive subscription communications and access relevant benefits.

You should only provide another person’s email address where you have permission to do so.

The subscription is intended for the designated recipient and should not be shared between multiple people.

22. SUBSCRIPTION DELIVERY ADDRESSES

If your subscription includes physical items such as craft kits or snail mail, you are responsible for ensuring that your delivery address is accurate and up to date.

We cannot accept responsibility for a package not being received where:

  • an incorrect or incomplete address was supplied; or
  • you moved without providing your new address before the relevant item was processed.

Where a package is returned to us as undeliverable, we will generally attempt to resend it.

If additional shipping costs arise because of an incorrect address, failed collection or repeated delivery attempt, we may ask you to cover or contribute to those additional costs.

Such situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

23. CHANGES TO SUBSCRIPTIONS

We may need to change, amend, pause or discontinue a subscription or its benefits.

Where we make a material change affecting an existing subscription, we will normally provide subscribers with at least one month’s notice and clearly explain the proposed changes.

This will allow subscribers to decide whether they wish to continue their subscription.

If we discontinue a subscription, we will communicate the available options to affected subscribers.

Nothing in this section affects any statutory rights you may have.

24. ONLINE EVENTS

We offer a variety of online creative events, including:

  • Craft Kit Club;
  • Wonky Craft Club; and
  • Community Craft Club.

Events are generally conducted online using Zoom.

Non-subscribers may purchase tickets for available events.

Customers with an active Tier of Abundance or Tier of Creativity subscription receive eligible online events as part of their subscription benefits.

All event bookings are subject to availability.

Events are not recorded.

25. CRAFT KIT CLUB

Craft Kit Club is conducted twice during the months in which it is offered.

Customers may book one or both sessions, subject to availability.

Eligible subscribers may attend one or both sessions.

Where a physical Craft Kit is supplied for the event, booking or attending a second session does not automatically entitle you to a second physical kit.

If you have already received your kit and subsequently cannot attend your booked session, you will not receive another physical kit simply because you transfer your booking to another session.

26. WONKY CRAFT CLUB AND COMMUNITY CRAFT CLUB

Wonky Craft Club and Community Craft Club operate according to the schedule displayed on our website.

Where a club operates every other month or alternates with another event, the dates displayed at the time of booking will determine the available sessions.

27. EVENT CANCELLATION AND TRANSFERS

We understand that plans sometimes change.

Where you cancel an eligible event booking, we do not normally provide a cash refund. Instead, the value of your booking may be retained as credit towards an eligible replacement event, subject to the event-specific transfer rules.

Our current event transfer arrangements include:

  • Wonky Craft Club and Community Craft Club: eligible bookings may be transferred to a future event of the same type within the applicable three-month transfer period;
  • Craft Kit Club: eligible bookings may be transferred in accordance with the applicable four-month transfer period and the additional conditions relating to Craft Kit Club.

Where a kit has already been shipped, additional conditions may apply.

The specific transfer conditions displayed for an event at the time of booking will also apply to that booking.

Event credit:

  • cannot be transferred to another person;
  • must be used within the applicable period; and
  • can only be used for eligible replacement events.

If the replacement event costs more than the original booking, you must pay the difference.

If the replacement event costs less, the remaining value will be retained as additional event credit.

These arrangements do not remove any statutory cancellation or refund rights that apply.

28. IF WE CANCEL AN EVENT

Occasionally, we may need to cancel or substantially change an event.

Where we cancel an event, we will generally offer affected customers an appropriate choice between:

  1. transferring the booking to another suitable event;
  2. receiving credit towards another event; or
  3. receiving a refund.

The options available may depend on the circumstances, including whether a physical craft kit has already been supplied.

29. SUBSCRIBER EVENT BOOKINGS

If you book an eligible event free of charge using your Tier of Abundance or Tier of Creativity subscription and subsequently cancel your subscription before the event takes place, your existing event booking will remain valid.

You will not be required to retrospectively pay the normal event ticket price for that booking.

30. COMMUNITY CODE OF CONDUCT

Our community is at the heart of Tiers of Joy.

We want our spaces to be welcoming places where people can make, learn, experiment, share ideas and experience joy.

When participating in our events, community chats or other Tiers of Joy community spaces, you must not engage in:

  • harassment;
  • bullying;
  • hate speech;
  • discriminatory behaviour;
  • threats or intimidation;
  • abusive behaviour;
  • deliberate or repeated disruption; or
  • behaviour that materially interferes with another person’s ability to participate.

We reserve the right to remove anyone from an event or community space where we reasonably consider their behaviour to breach these standards.

If you are removed because of misconduct, you may lose your booking without a refund or event credit.

Serious or repeated breaches may also result in suspension or termination of access to our community.

31. RECORDING AND SHARING EVENTS

Participants must not record, livestream or otherwise reproduce Tiers of Joy events unless we have expressly given permission.

This includes:

  • video recordings;
  • audio recordings;
  • screen recordings;
  • photographs of teaching materials; and
  • sharing recordings or copies of event content with others.

Please also respect the privacy of other participants.

You should not publish identifiable photographs, videos or screenshots of other participants without their permission

32. PHOTOGRAPHY AND MARKETING

From time to time, Tiers of Joy may take photographs, screenshots or video during community activities and events for use on our website, social media or other promotional materials.

Where we intend to use identifiable images or footage of participants for promotional purposes, we will seek appropriate consent where required.

You should also respect the privacy and consent of other participants when taking or sharing photographs or other content.

33. MEASURING VIDEO CALL

Our Measuring Video Call is a free appointment available to customers who have purchased an eligible garment or Make Your Own Kit and require assistance with measurements.

Appointments:

  • must be booked at least 1 day in advance;
  • may be booked up to 90 days in advance;
  • may be cancelled up to 30 minutes before the appointment; and
  • may be rescheduled up to 3 hours before the appointment.

Appointments are automatically approved when successfully booked.

If you miss a Measuring Video Call, you may rebook.

A maximum of two missed appointments is permitted. Any further missed appointments may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The purpose of the appointment is to provide measurement guidance. It does not guarantee that a finished garment will achieve a perfect fit.

34. MAKE YOUR OWN KIT VIDEO CALL

Our Make Your Own Kit Video Call is a one-to-one sewing tutorial designed to help you overcome a technique or progress to the next stage of making your garment.

The appointment:

  • costs £30;
  • lasts for up to 30 minutes;
  • must be booked at least 1 day in advance;
  • may be booked up to 90 days in advance; and
  • may be rescheduled up to 3 hours before the appointment.

Appointments are automatically approved when successfully booked.

The normal booking system does not permit cancellation of this appointment.

If you miss your appointment, you may rebook once without an additional charge.

Any further missed appointment may require a new paid booking.

The tutorial provides practical guidance and support but does not guarantee a particular finished result.

35. STATUTORY RIGHTS RELATING TO APPOINTMENTS

Our appointment booking rules describe our normal operational cancellation and rescheduling arrangements.

They do not override statutory consumer rights which may apply to the purchase of a service.

Where applicable, consumers may have statutory cancellation rights for services purchased online or by other distance means.

Where a customer asks us to begin providing a service during an applicable cancellation period, the legal consequences of that request will apply.

36. MAKERS MARKET

Our Makers Market provides a platform for independent artists, makers and small brands.

For Makers Market products, the relevant independent Maker is the seller of the product, while Tiers of Joy facilitates the sale and provides the customer-facing service.

Tiers of Joy handles, as applicable:

  • payment;
  • order coordination;
  • fulfilment;
  • shipping;
  • returns; and
  • customer service.

If you have a problem with a Makers Market product, please contact Tiers of Joy in the first instance.

We will liaise with the relevant Maker where necessary.

37. MAKERS MARKET PRODUCTS AND DELIVERY

Makers Market products may differ in:

  • materials;
  • manufacturing methods;
  • dimensions;
  • availability;
  • production times; and
  • finish.

Where an item is described as Made to Order, additional production time may be required.

Made-to-order products may be shipped separately from the remainder of your order.

If an order contains both standard and Made to Order products, you may therefore receive more than one delivery.

Any production or lead time stated on the relevant product page should be taken into account when placing an order.

38. MAKERS MARKET RETURNS AND CUSTOMER SERVICE

If you need to return a Makers Market product or have a problem with your purchase, please contact Tiers of Joy.

We will handle the customer-service process and liaise with the relevant Maker where necessary.

The applicable provisions of our Returns Policy and your statutory consumer rights will apply.

Some products may be made to order, personalised or otherwise subject to specific legal exceptions to ordinary change-of-mind cancellation rights. Where relevant, this will be communicated as part of the product information.

39. CRAFT SAFETY

Crafting can involve tools and materials that require care.

These may include:

  • sewing machines;
  • needles and pins;
  • scissors and cutting tools;
  • irons and other heated equipment;
  • paints;
  • dyes;
  • adhesives; and
  • other craft equipment or materials.

You are responsible for using tools and materials safely and following the instructions and safety information provided.

You should ensure that your workspace and equipment are suitable for the activity.

40. CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Our products and events are not specifically designed as children’s products or children’s activities.

Under-18s may participate where the activity is appropriate.

We recommend a minimum age of 14 for independent participation.

Parents or guardians are responsible for deciding whether a particular activity, product or event is suitable for a young person and for providing appropriate supervision.

Particular care should be taken when using sewing machines, irons, needles, scissors and other potentially hazardous equipment.

41. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Unless otherwise stated, content published by Tiers of Joy belongs to Tiers of Joy Ltd or is used with permission.

This includes:

  • our name, branding and logos;
  • photographs;
  • illustrations;
  • text;
  • graphics;
  • patterns;
  • designs;
  • videos;
  • tutorials;
  • instructions; and
  • educational materials.

You may access and use our website and content for your own personal, non-commercial purposes.

You must not copy, reproduce, publish, distribute, sell, modify or commercially exploit our intellectual property without our prior written permission.

42. THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES AND SERVICES

Our website and services may contain links to or use third-party websites and services, including platforms such as Zoom, Patreon, Instagram and payment providers.

Your use of those services may also be subject to their own terms and privacy policies.

We do not control and are not responsible for the availability, security, content, policies or functionality of third-party services.

Where a third-party platform becomes unavailable or changes its functionality, we may need to change the way a related Tiers of Joy service or subscription benefit is provided.

43. WEBSITE AVAILABILITY

We aim to keep our website and services available and functioning properly.

However, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability.

The website or individual services may occasionally be unavailable because of:

  • maintenance;
  • technical problems;
  • hosting or network failures;
  • cybersecurity incidents;
  • third-party service outages; or
  • circumstances outside our reasonable control.

We will make reasonable efforts to resolve significant problems affecting our services.

44. EVENTS OUTSIDE OUR REASONABLE CONTROL

Sometimes circumstances beyond our reasonable control may affect our ability to provide a product, event, appointment or subscription service.

These circumstances may include:

  • severe weather;
  • fire;
  • flood;
  • natural disasters;
  • epidemics or pandemics;
  • war;
  • terrorism;
  • civil unrest;
  • industrial action;
  • government restrictions;
  • postal or courier disruption;
  • customs delays;
  • major internet or telecommunications failures; or
  • significant failures of third-party services.

Where such circumstances materially affect an order or service, we will make reasonable efforts to communicate with you and find an appropriate solution.

45. OUR LIABILITY

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.

In particular, nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits:

  • your statutory consumer rights;
  • liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence;
  • liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or
  • any other liability which cannot legally be excluded or limited.

Subject to the above, we are not responsible for losses which were not reasonably foreseeable when the relevant contract was entered into or which were not caused by a breach on our part.

We are not responsible for injury or damage resulting from misuse of craft equipment or materials, failure to follow provided instructions or failure to take reasonable safety precautions, except where responsibility cannot lawfully be excluded.

46. PRIVACY AND PERSONAL INFORMATION

We take the privacy of our customers and community seriously.

We collect and use personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy:

https://tiersofjoyltd.com/privacy-policy/

Depending on the services you use, personal information may be required to:

  • process orders and payments;
  • arrange delivery;
  • administer subscriptions;
  • provide event access;
  • manage appointments;
  • record measurements;
  • provide customer support; and
  • communicate with you about services you have requested.

Our Privacy Policy should be read alongside these Terms & Conditions.

47. INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS

We welcome customers from around the world.

If you purchase from outside the United Kingdom, you may have additional mandatory consumer protections under the laws of your country of residence.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to remove consumer protections that cannot legally be excluded.

You are responsible for complying with applicable import requirements and paying customs duties, import taxes or other local charges where applicable.

48. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS & CONDITIONS

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time.

This may be necessary because of:

  • changes to our products or services;
  • changes to our subscription structure;
  • new website functionality;
  • changes to our business; or
  • changes in legal or regulatory requirements.

The Last updated date at the top of this page will indicate when these Terms were most recently updated.

Changes will not normally retrospectively alter the terms applying to an order that has already been accepted.

Where a change materially affects an ongoing subscription or other continuing arrangement, we will provide appropriate notice where required.

49. SEVERABILITY

If any provision of these Terms & Conditions is found to be unlawful, invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be treated as removed or modified only to the extent necessary.

The remaining provisions will continue to apply.

50. STATUTORY CONSUMER RIGHTS

These Terms & Conditions are intended to explain how Tiers of Joy operates. They do not remove or restrict consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.

Consumer law may provide rights relating to:

  • goods;
  • services;
  • digital content;
  • distance purchases;
  • subscriptions;
  • cancellations;
  • refunds; and
  • faulty or misdescribed products.

Where a provision of these Terms & Conditions conflicts with a mandatory statutory consumer right, the statutory right will take priority.

51. GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

If you live outside England and Wales, you may also benefit from mandatory consumer protections provided by the law of the country in which you live.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to deprive you of such protections where the law does not allow this.

Subject to those protections, the courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction in relation to disputes arising under these Terms & Conditions.
